01Go for a run or a walk
Start a run or walk in Waybound and it records your route with your iPhone's GPS, with the screen on or off. Any route, anywhere, at any pace. Walks count the same as runs: the same distance moves you the same way and earns the same XP.
While you move you see distance, pace, heart rate and how far it is to the next discovery, on screen and on your Lock Screen.
02Climb this month’s painted path
Each month everyone shares one painted path that climbs through the worlds of all seven types. Every mile you cover moves you up it, and friends you invite are on it with you, so you can see who is ahead.
Mile markers at 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 miles, and on, give everyone who reaches them the same bonus finds and XP. At midnight US Eastern on the 1st, everyone starts the new month's path at mile 0. Your Journal, level and lifetime miles never reset.
03An egg every 2 miles
There is a stop every 2 miles (about 3.2 km). Each stop hatches an egg with one creature inside, and a stop is never empty. Tap to open it: rarer creatures take more taps. Your first egg hatches before your first run.
04The odds
Each stop rolls one rarity. These are the base odds per find:
| Rarity | Base odds |
|---|---|
| Common | About 2 in 3 |
| Uncommon | About 1 in 4 |
| Rare | About 1 in 19 |
| Epic | About 1 in 75 |
| Legendary | About 1 in 235 |
| Mythic | About 1 in 640 |
About 1 in 64 finds is Fabled, a rare pearl strike of that creature. The further up the month's path you are, the better the odds; each part of the path favors its own type; and creatures you have not found yet are favored too. Nobody can buy better odds, rerolls or luck.
05Fill your Journal
Every creature you find goes into your Journal as an enamel pin, with the run it came from. There are 200 to find in seven types: Ground (35), Water (35), Air (35), Fire (35), Electric (35), Dragon (19), Mythic (6). The six Mythics are the rarest finds in the game.
06A real run tracker underneath
- Distance, pace, splits and elevation from GPS
- Heart rate and heart-rate zones from a Bluetooth monitor
- Best effort medals from 1K to the marathon
- Activity trends, streaks and totals
- Apple Health import, so Apple Watch, WHOOP and Oura runs count
- Strava history import (history only: it does not move you along the race)
- Vehicle detection: when Waybound sees vehicle speeds for a sustained stretch, that stretch does not count
